Tim Wilkerson Racing Lone Independent Team in NHRA Countdown To The Championship

Springfield, IL (October 12, 2016) – As the owner, driver and crew chief on his Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang, Tim Wilkerson does it all. In a field of big teams with multiple cars, his is the only independent Funny Car team in the 2016 NHRA Countdown to the Championship. Currently in the seventh spot, he looks to move up the points ladder at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals this weekend at the Texas Motorplex.
“I think being that high in points is a tribute to the effort of my team and the work they put in day in and day out. It shows the quality of the help and the quantity of time they put in,” Wilkerson said. “Before the season started we made several small changes that really added up to making our team better.”
Wilkerson had two wins at the beginning of the season in Phoenix and Charlotte. He had two mid-season setbacks when his Shelby Mustang suffered heavy damage after crashing in Topeka and Denver.
“Even though we had a couple tragedies with the car this season, my team never slowed down,” Wilkerson said. “If it wasn’t for those two incidents, I believe we would be even higher up in the points battle.”
Wilkerson and his team had an extremely busy summer. Between NHRA races and match races, they were on the road for 11 weeks straight. But after a break last week, they are all ready to tackle the last three NHRA races.
“We had a great three day weekend and everyone is recharged and refreshed,” Wilkerson said. “We have a spare car from Murf McKinney ready to go as we head west. I’m optimistic we can finish the season in an even higher spot than we are in now.”
