Springfield, Illinois (September 9, 2016) – This weekend Tim Wilkerson Racing will take part in New England Dragway’s 50th Anniversary Celebration in Epping, New Hampshire. New England Dragway has a full day of events scheduled on Saturday, September 10th which includes Funny Car Under The Stars in which the Wilkerson’s will match race. “We are very fortunate to be invited to this event by the Tasca family, who are local heroes at this track,” said Wilkerson. “We’re looking forward to the passionate fans that fill the stands to watch us race.” Tim’s son Daniel will be driving the Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang this weekend, with Wilkerson taking care of the tuning duties. “Yeah, we’re nice enough to allow Daniel to get behind the wheel,” Wilkerson joked. “He has never made a three second run before and I think it could happen this weekend. If the weather cooperates and we get the right tuning set up in the car, it will happen.”
Wilkerson is coming off of four days of racing at the 62nd Annual U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. He entered race day qualified ninth with an elapsed time of 3.914 at 323.97 mph. In Round One Wilkerson faced the eighth qualifier, Robert Hight. Wilkerson smoked the tires right off the starting line and Hight went on to win. (3931/326.56 to 10.657/86.91) Losing traction and smoking the tires has been a problem plaguing Wilkerson.
“I really didn’t think it would do what it did first round. We’re still a little disappointed on why it would have smoked the tires because I wasn’t trying to do that; we had less clutch on it, there just wasn’t any traction in that spot where we were at,” Wilkerson said. “We got some ideas Richard and I have talked about: different tire pressure charts, places to put the car on the track and different wheelie bar heights. We’re going to have to change something we’re doing. This weekend will give us a chance to work on needed improvements.”
